I’ve thought about doing this, not in a serious way, but it could easily be done

Are there laws over there restricting EV charge spots to EVs? In the US (Ohio at least) there are no such laws, only municipal ordinances maybe. So this actually isn’t illegal here. Just a dick move.

That’s probably not fooling a meter maid.

Not sure, probably no written laws yet since our justice system takes decades to adjust to any changes in tec
hnology. But yeah, a dick move.
Especially because recently EV owners here held a protest, occupying a gas station to show the effects this kind of dick parking has. It was all over the news, he couldn’t have missed it, so yeah, a dick move.

Improvise, adapt, overcome?

Likewise, I feel like the stores that specifically put the EV spots in front of the building causing anyone not in an EV to have to park further away is also a dick move.

I am sure the potential fine is dozens of dollars (if anything).

Given that most of the time it’s on private property, the owner likely could still have the car towed based on the fact that it is effectively trespassing.

parking 2 spaces farther away that big of a deal?

Seems pretty ballsy to leave your hood unlatched like that. Some unscrupulous folk could really do a number on a car left in such a state. I mean, I couldn’t do it, because it goes against the code, but I’m sure some one could that didn’t give a shit about messing with someone’s ride.

Im pretty sure these spots do say “ parking for evs while charging only”. So this would not work because its not actually charging anything. Now, he just has to get creative and plug in a random battery that is zip tied to the car. And as long it is being charged, there is an argument to be made that its totally allowed. He will still probably get shamed on some tesla forum though and maybe get keyed.

The massive cost of charge stations and making multiple 240-400 volt power runs probably necessitates the close proximity.

When someone’s reached this level of dickheadishness they’ve crossed the code. If an EV driver messed with their ride I wouldn’t feel bad in the least. This is tantamount to parking directly in front of someone’s driveway entrance or taking a handicap stall because it’s convenient for yourself.

2 way street.
